Chinese Herbal Medicine at Sammā — personalised plant-based formulas

Chinese Herbal Medicine

A sophisticated therapeutic system rooted in the classical Chinese pharmacopoeia — personalised formulas of roots, leaves and minerals, composed to meet each body's unique constitution.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the most sophisticated therapeutic systems within Traditional Chinese Medicine. Rooted in the classical medical texts and refined through centuries of clinical practice, it approaches the body as a living terrain — where constitution, vitality, digestion, sleep, emotional life, and the surrounding environment interact, including the influence of pathogenic factors such as cold, heat, dampness, dryness, wind, and seasonal change.

At Sammā, we draw from the classical pharmacopoeia — roots, barks, leaves, flowers, minerals, and other natural substances — composed into personalised formulas adapted to each person’s constitution and present condition.

Each formula is built from a precise clinical reading and designed to address patterns at their root — supporting physiological regulation, digestive function, hormonal health, immune resilience, nervous system stability, and the recovery of vital energy.

A herbal formula is not a generic remedy. It is a living architecture — precise, adaptive, and deeply individual — created to help the body return to coherence, regulation, and vitality.

How a consultation unfolds.

First consultation 60 minutes; follow-up sessions 45 minutes.

  1. 01

    Listening & Diagnosis

Each consultation begins with a complete intake alongside the four pillars of diagnosis in Chinese medicine: observation, listening, questioning, and palpation. Pulse reading, tongue observation and a conversation about your symptoms, history, lifestyle and terrain shape a precise picture of your current balance.

  2. 02

    Composition of the Formula

Based on the diagnosis, the practitioner composes a personalised formula drawing on the Chinese pharmacopoeia. Each substance is chosen for its action and for the dialogue it creates with the others — a tailored prescription for the present moment.

  3. 03

    Preparation & Intake

The formula may be delivered as granules, decoctions or capsules, depending on what suits your daily life. The practitioner explains the intake protocol, the expected sensations and any dietary advice that supports the action of the plants.

  4. 04

    Reassessment & Adjustment

Follow-up consultations allow the practitioner to refine the formula as the terrain evolves. Lifestyle, nutrition and complementary practices may be suggested to deepen the benefits of the prescription.

Questions we often hear.

The substances used come from controlled suppliers respecting Swiss quality standards. The practitioner takes into account your current medication and medical history to compose a formula that is safe and compatible with the rest of your care.

A recent imbalance may evolve favourably in 3 to 5 consultations. A deeper terrain often asks for several months of accompaniment. The formula is adjusted at each visit, in dialogue with the evolution of the body.

When prescribed by a recognised therapist, Chinese Herbal Medicine is covered by most Swiss complementary insurances. We invite you to check your contract with your insurer. Sammā issues invoices that meet Swiss complementary-billing standards.
