One of the oldest arts of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where millennial wisdom meets contemporary science — a precise stimulation that supports the body's return to its natural balance.
Acupuncture is one of the oldest medical arts of Traditional Chinese Medicine. At Sammā, this millennia-old heritage meets a contemporary understanding of the body — supporting the nervous system, circulation, digestion, sleep, pain regulation, and emotional balance.
Each consultation is a living cartography. The pulse, tongue, complexion, voice, and lived experience reveal the subtle movement of Qi, Blood, and Shen — the body’s inner landscape.
Today, research increasingly helps us understand how the precise placement of fine needles on specific acupuncture points may stimulate the nervous system, connective tissue, microcirculation, inflammatory pathways, and the body’s own mechanisms of regulation.
Through this subtle stimulation, acupuncture supports the restoration of circulation, the regulation of tension, the calming of the mind, and the body’s return to a more natural physiological balance.
Each session begins with a complete intake and assessment, alongside the four pillars of diagnosis in Chinese medicine: observation, listening, questioning, and palpation. This includes Chinese pulse reading, tongue observation, and a conversation around your reasons for consulting, symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and overall terrain. During the first consultation, this time is extended to establish a precise and personalised treatment plan.
Acupuncture points are selected according to the diagnosis. The needles - sterile, single-use, and extremely fine - are placed with precision along specific points and meridians. Their insertion is usually painless.
The needles remain in place for 30 minutes. This quiet time allows the Qi to circulate and the body to enter a deep state of regulation and restoration. According to your preference, you may rest in silence, listen to music, or be guided through a short meditation.
The needles are gently removed, and we take a moment to exchange about your sensations. Your practitioner will guide you on the next steps of your treatment plan and, when appropriate, may recommend lifestyle adjustments, nutrition, breathing, movement, or herbal support to prolong the benefits of the session.
The needles used in acupuncture are extremely fine - much thinner than a standard injection needle. With a precise and gentle insertion technique, the treatment is usually painless and often feels surprisingly subtle. You may occasionally feel a light pressure, a brief tingling, warmth, or a sense of heaviness around the point. These sensations are normal and usually short-lived; they simply indicate that the body is responding to the stimulation. Most people find the experience deeply calming once the needles are in place.
There is no single answer. A recent imbalance may evolve favourably in 3 to 5 sessions. A deeper or more complex terrain often asks for 8 to 12 sessions, spaced according to need. Your practitioner reassesses the protocol at each consultation, adjusting to the rhythm of each person.
Acupuncture practised by a recognised therapist is covered by most Swiss complementary insurances. We invite you to check your contract conditions with your insurer before the first consultation. Sammā issues invoices that meet Swiss complementary-billing standards.
The initial consultation lasts 60 minutes, allowing time for a full assessment, intake, and Chinese medicine diagnosis. Follow-up acupuncture sessions last 45 minutes. We recommend allowing a calm moment after the session, so the body can integrate the treatment before returning to the rhythm of the day.
